FASCIA AND EMOTIONS by @amnacademy Fascia – co FASCIA AND EMOTIONS by @amnacademy

Fascia – constitutive tissue – the connective tissue matrix – is tissue derived from the inner, middle germ layer known as the mesoderm.

In a phenomenological sense, the mesoderm represents the inside of the body, as Jaap van der wal MD PhD puts it, the fascia represents the ‘innerness’ of the body.

The two outer germ layers, or limiting borders of the germ layers, are phylogenetically a most recent development; the Ectoderm from which the skin, muscles, brain, and nervous system develop and the phylogenetically most ancient layer, the endoderm, from which the digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems, develop.

As any myofascial therapist will tell you, when working through gentle myofascial work, the clients will often spontaneously experience emotional responses. As tissues, electrical charge, interstitial fluid, and chemicals are moved and released people may:
* cry
* feel sad
* or even experience a memory of something in their past which is of particular significance but maybe has been forgotten or repressed.

It would be easy to say that fascia stores emotions. As ever that is most likely an over simplistic interpretation of the phenomena. The incredible work of Dr Hamer who produced the Germanic New Medicine showed through twenty years of research, thirty one thousand patients, as well as documented reproducible anatomical observations, that there exists common conflicts of the psyche which effect the biology of human kind in such a way that underlies all disease.

Don’t Ice 🧊 by @amnacademy Yesterday was Fa Don’t Ice 🧊 by @amnacademy

Yesterday was Father’s Day where I live, and my kids and I decided to spend some time together doing one of the things we all really enjoy...skateboarding

Well, I decided to goof off on my son’s stunt scooter and, as often happens when acting the fool, I done f@#ked up.

I don’t quite know how it happened, it all happened so fast, but I dislocated my knee at the Tibia. Luckily it was a quick pop back in while waiting for the ambulance (I don’t recommend doing it yourself, you can trap blood vessels and nerves and end up losing a leg) but mine popped back in on it’s own and luckily without any complications.

I went to Emergency to make sure nothing was torn and there were no complications and was given the age old advice of R.I.C.E. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.

So I went home and did none of those things.

Why? Because they don’t work!

The R.I.C.E acronym was coined in 1978 by Dr Gabe Mirkin, but like a genuine scientist when faced with evidence to the contrary and no evidence to the affirmative, he has since changed his position and done a complete 180 on the protocol.

The trouble is, in a lot of circles it’s still very ingrained. It’s still taught in first aid courses, and even the Emergency Medicine physicians I saw gave me the same outdated advice.

Icing not only doesn’t work, it actually slows down the healing process and can in fact damage the surrounding tissue, possibly inhibiting stem cells and insulin like growth factor from performing their jobs of helping to repair and heal.

What should you do instead? Move as soon as you can as long as it is without pain. This enables the lymphatic system to do its job and will allow for faster recover. If like in my case you can’t really move, you can try electrical stimulation with an approved medical device (preferably under professional supervision)

Now that’s balance! Posted @withregram • @mi Now that’s balance!

Posted @withregram • @mitty Such an incredible and daring feat shot by my friends @taylorfreesolo, @Renan_Ozturk and their incredible team. @SketchyAndyLewis looks as if he is balancing on the moon! This year has not been easy for any of us, but accomplishments like this remind me things will get better and there’s a world of adventure waiting for us when they do. Read Renan’s words below to find out how this project came together. Part of the fun of being a photographer is pushing our gear and cameras to the limits in the field and I cannot wait to test out @SonyAlpha’s new, low-light A7III. #sony #sonyalpha #A7SIII #lowlight #moon #fullmoon #climbing #highlining #photography
———————————————————————————
From @renan_ozturk: “What a quest! We put all our collective knowledge of the desert landscape, climbing, high-lining and camera tech together for this one. Originally inspired by the late great friend Dean Potter, we spent 4 full moon cycles hoping to line this all up and push the new @sonyalpha 7sIII to its limits. It was difficult creating during #covid19 times and very appreciative of @mparns for the trust to pull off this low percentage ‘shot in the dark’ with a pre-covid-tested special ops crew. Lots of blood, tears and laughter shed in the process. To me, @sketchyandylewis’s final moonlit freesolo walk was an artistic expression of what humanity is capable of in these times of change”
Have you ever tried to grow some of your own food? Have you ever tried to grow some of your own food? With some great recent innovations in urban farming it’s more practical than ever with very little space required.

Posted @withregram • @drmarkhyman We’re living in an age where it’s increasingly hard to avoid exposure to toxins. Some of the most ubiquitous are right on our food, on some of the most commonly eaten items in the American diet. It’s no wonder that illnesses related to toxicity, like cancer, infertility, and neurological diseases, are on the rise. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
We need to change our food system if we want to change our health, and it’s issues like these that need our help. I was so happy to sit down with my good friend @robertfkennedyjr to dig into the topic of glyphosate and corruption in the agricultural industry. You can listen to it through the link in my bio. ⁣⁣⁣

Chronic pain is a complex condition that is misund Chronic pain is a complex condition that is misunderstood by many practitioners, and masked by others.

Did you know that 1 in 5 adults suffer from chronic pain? According to the CDC, chronic pain is one of the most common reasons adults seek medical care, it has been linked to:

• Restrictions in mobility and daily activities
• Dependence on opioids
• Anxiety and depression
• Poor perceived health or reduced quality of life

The Global Burden of Disease Study (2016) showed that pain and pain-related diseases are the leading cause of disability and disease burden globally.

And if this is not startling enough, the US Department of Health and Human Services declared a state of emergency due to opioid misuse prescribed to mask the symptoms of chronic pain.

Will you stand with me in the fight against the Chronic Pain Crisis?

I have an exciting opportunity to share with you where you can learn brain based solutions to help your patients overcome chronic pain.

I am honored to be a featured speaker on the Virtual Neurology Summit, a premium online event for clinical excellence.

Gratitude and Your Brain 🧠 by @amnacademy In a Gratitude and Your Brain 🧠 by @amnacademy

In a neurological experiment conducted by researchers, brain activity was measured using magnetic resonance imaging as subjects were induced to feel gratitude.

The areas of the brain showing increased activity were the anterior cingulate cortex and medial prefrontal cortex—those associated with moral and social cognition, reward, empathy, and value judgment.

This led to the conclusion that the emotion of gratitude supports a positive and supportive attitude toward others and a feeling of relief from stressors.

Gratitude activates the hypothalamus as well, with downstream effects on metabolism, stress, and various behaviours. The hypothalamus is located at the base of the brain and regulates hormones responsible for many critical functions, such as body temperature, emotional responses, and survival functions like appetite and sleep.

One of the neurochemicals associated with the parts of the brain affected by gratitude is dopamine, a pleasure hormone.

The positive influence of gratitude on mental health continues past a particular event if the emotion is relived:

'…a simple gratitude writing intervention was associated with significantly greater and lasting neural sensitivity to gratitude–subjects who participated in gratitude letter writing showed both behavioural increases in gratitude and significantly greater neural modulation by gratitude in the medial prefrontal cortex three months later.'

In fact, this lasting effect is psychologically protective. In adolescents, feelings of gratitude have shown an inverse correlation with bullying victimization and suicide risk. Gratitude affects brain function on a chemical level and its practice promotes feelings of self-worth and compassion for others.

What does Holistic Health mean to you? The Term ' What does Holistic Health mean to you?

The Term 'Holistic Health' has unfortunately been hijacked in recent years and can now conjure some pretty negative connotations.
To us, at its most basic, it simply means trying to consider everything.

Emotions, Socioeconomics, Diet, Exercise, Relationships and Environment can all positively or negatively impact our health.

To us, Holistic Health is just about trying to get as big a picture as possible.
What does it mean to you?

A few recent studies have shown a link between ins A few recent studies have shown a link between insufficient levels of Vitamin D and the severity of COVID-19 Symptoms
_
The study from the University of Southeastern Philippines showed a strong correlation between serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] Levels and symptom severity.
_
Of the 212 cases with laboratory confirmed infection, A multinomial logistic regression analysis reported that for each standard deviation increase in serum 25(OH)D, the odds of having a mild clinical outcome rather than a severe outcome were approximately 7.94 times (OR=0.126, p<0.001) while interestingly, the odds of having a mild clinical outcome rather than a critical outcome were approximately 19.61 times (OR=0.051, p<0.001)
_
The results suggest that an increase in serum 25(OH)D level in the body could either improve clinical outcomes or mitigate worst (severe to critical) outcomes, while a decrease in serum 25(OH)D level in the body could worsen clinical outcomes of COVID-2019 patients.
_
In Indonesia, over 95% of patients that died of COVID-19 were Vitamin D deficient and those that had sufficient levels of Vitamin D only account for 4% of total mortality.
_
Now, this is still a correlation of data, so we’re definitely not suggesting causation here, nor are the researchers, and there has been no research yet to suggest Vitamin D supplementation to be effective at increasing blood serum levels of 25(OH)D, but it’s definitely interesting and worth further investigation.
In the meantime, there is an effective, proven and free way to increase Vitamin D
_
Exposure to natural light, aka sunlight.
Research has shown that just 15-30min a day of sunlight, on as much bare skin as possible can dramatically boost your Vitamin D levels. Obviously we still need to be mindful that the sun can also be hazardous in certain circumstances so please use common sense.
If you are of fair complexion, or live in a place with a more intense UV index like Australia for example, then 10-15 minutes of morning and evening sun is a smarter choice than sitting out for half an hour at midday.
Remember, this is not advice to go sunbaking. You still want to avoid sunburn, and sun damage!!
There is hardly an aspect of our lives that COVID- There is hardly an aspect of our lives that COVID-19 has not touched, and businesses everywhere are, understandably, under stress.

Health and Wellness professionals, in particular, are feeling lost, and scarcity-mindedness (gyms being closed are having a huge impact on everyone)

So instead of feeding the scarcity (which…let’s face it…there's enough of flying around already), at AMN Academy we have decided to do the opposite:

Effective immediately, we're opening the doors to The Academy Membership to anyone who wants access, totally free, from now until April 8th.

This is not a free trial, nor are there any upsells or upgrade offers. We believe that now is the time to give, so we simply want to give freely of what we have.

For what it’s worth, I know it isn’t much.

But if you’re worried about your career, it can improve your prospects when normalcy returns…and we believe it will.

And if you’re worried about your revenue, it can help you by teaching you how to deliver online training and have it up and running within the hour

And if you’re just sick and tired of all the bad news on TV and social media, it can provide a healthy distraction until the media returns to its regularly-scheduled obnoxiousness…and make no mistake, they will.

So whatever your reason, I hope you join our community of Health and Wellness practitioners from around the world.
I mean that…I can’t wait to meet you. -Luke

Contagious: Laughter! by @amnacademy There’s a Contagious: Laughter! by @amnacademy

There’s a lot of uncertainty right now and we are all finding out how we respond.

Whilst we mean well, telling someone who’s worried and emotional, not to worry isn’t helpful.
To instantly improve your own and their brain chemistry, show empathy and make them laugh!
We all need to stick together right now & sharing a laugh is one of the best in-built mechanisms to create resonance between us.

Professor of evolutionary psychology at the University of Oxford, states; “Because social laughter leads to similar chemical response in the brain, this allows significant expansion of human social networks: laughter is highly contagious, and the endorphin response may thus easily spread through large groups that laugh together." Lauri Nummenmaa, Director of the Human Emotions Systems Laboratory at the University of Turku, states: “The pleasurable and calming effects of the endorphin release might signal safety and promote feelings of togetherness”. Contagious social laughter stimulates endorphin release in the thalamus, caudate nucleus, and anterior insula. it also has been shown to boost physical health by decreasing the circulation of stress hormones and increasing the population of immune cells important for fighting illness

Something I think we already know but worth mentioning in this crazy time!

In times of crisis we can either give in to fear a In times of crisis we can either give in to fear and panic, or we can rise to the occasion and let it bring out the best in us. Imagine the impact if every one of us did one small thing to help someone else. It doesn’t have to be rushing to hospitals to 3D print lifesaving devices. It can be as simple as shopping for an elderly neighbour.

Adapt, Improvise, Stay Calm & Stay Safe... . Thing Adapt, Improvise, Stay Calm & Stay Safe...

Things have gone crazy. There's no denying that. So I thought I'd chip in and add my two cents and hopefully help in some small way
.
School's closing - With lots of countries closing schools people are being faced with having to homeschool all of a sudden without any time to prepare. One of the most important things is to try and stick to a routine. Kids flourish with routine but finding a routine that works for you and allows those of you able to work from home some time to work can be a challenge. I've included our families routine in below in the images. Our kids are 7 and nearly 5. In the comments below I've also linked some handy free resources for at-home learning.
.
Gym's closing - with gyms closing and people being afraid to go to the gym anyway now more than ever as health and wellness professionals we need to find ways we can reach our clients by leveraging technology. Can you find ways to offer group classes or 1:1 sessions online by leveraging simple tools such as Skype, Zoom, Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger etc?
.
Maybe you could set up a private Facebook group for your clients and Live Stream classes they can follow along to? .
Stay Calm - It's really important that we're trying our best to avoid listening to the mainstream media too much and instead get our information from reputable sources. The media are focuses on getting viewers, and it's in their nature to sensationalise things and it's creating a lot of unnecessary fear and anxiety. .
It's important to take this seriously and stay up to date, but panic is going to make things way worse than they need to be. Links to some reliable resources about COVID-19 in the comments below. .
Help, don't hoard - At this point a 6 week supply of toilet paper isn't needed. Instead of panic shopping do you have an elderly neighbour or family member who you could buy supplies for? You can easily do a no-contact drop off of some essentials and save them a trip to the supermarket. Times like this can bring out the best and the worst in us all. Make it a choice to let it bring out your best. Take care of each other! #covid_19 #staystrong #strongertogether #amnacademy

Never forget that emotions change your physiology on a moment to moment basis. Succumbing to to the contagion of fear that is sweeping the globe at the moment, (in the context of this health issue) tips one’s autonomic nervous system into fight or flight, makes a person’s immune system less effective against any threats & quite literally drains one’s energy. Sustaining feelings of love, peace, compassion & calm literally does the opposite. If you were to come into contact with a pathogen of any kind, how do you want your immune system & body to be capable of responding?
